The Artisan Kitchen was designed to maximize storage while also having open area increasing the feeling of a larger space. From there the incredible Blistered Tiger Maples booked matched cabinetry was meticulously laid out to continue the flow through the cabinets while the dark/light effect of the book matching panels draws your eye across the kitchen. Approaching the room you are first met by a large bar style natural stone island where 3 unique stools invite you to sit. The front face of the cabinetry below showcases the amazing grain and figure of the Tiger Maple book matched panels that are enhanced by the under cabinet lighting that is also completely throughout the kitchen allowing my client to set whatever mood appropriate, driven by a custom designed lighting system that is fully adjustable from cool white tones to the warm amber tones at any brightness level. The lighting also continues throughout all the drawers and interior cabinets automatically turning on and off as they are used.
As you look to the drawers you instantly notice the custom drawer pulls designed by Thomas Schlack and beautifully Handmade by an amazing local metal artist by the name of Jonathan Shor who without him this beautiful hardware wouldn’t have been possible.
Opening the drawers you see the solid African Wenge and Tiger Maple woods contrasting each other in the beautiful custom jointery that adds not only a stunning effect of craftsmanship and design but are also incredibly strong sure to last a lifetime. Turning your attention to the interior of the drawers there are several that have custom fitted dinning ware and accessory inserts that were hand carved to match the handmade dinning ware nestling them perfectly and beautifully displayed in a carefully thought-out user-friendly way.
Other examples of maximizing space in this way is the high end cabinet hardware that takes what would be unaccessible space in the corners and tall cabinets and allows the user to effortlessly draw out specially designed corner cabinet shelving and shelf slides easily allowing access to your items.
In additional efforts to make life easier and to add another level of innovation are the automatic bi-folding door mechanisms in the upper stove wall cabinets. With just the touch of the door it automatically opens vertically towards the ceiling allowing full access to the interior. Then with a touch of a button the doors retract down effortlessly. This also saves from having to reach high up in order to open and close the door which makes this a very functional and user-friendly design.
Turning to the back wall there are three 12 foot long shelves made from Wenge and accented with custom in house hand hammered copper that has then been plated with nickel and hand rubbed to a satin finish. Each shelf is lighted to illuminate my clients handmade blown and carved glass artwork bringing another level of depth, texture and color to this environment.
Finishing off the kitchen is one of the main focal points. The custom range hood, made from solid Wenge and hand hammered copper to match the shelves. The face of the hood begins this transition from the straight lines of the cabinetry to the curved organic nature of the hood. The bent Wenge elements grain flows up to the solid panels of alternating grain as they rise to the ceiling where the copper hood is met by the Wenge accent finishing it to the ceiling.
